July 11, 2004, - Dr. James A. Drake, well-known biographer of legendary opera stars such as Richard Tucker, Lily Pons, and Rosa Ponselle, presented “Voices That Live – A listener’s Tour Through a Century of Great Singers.” Dr. Drake used excerpts from "live" and studio recordings from 1901 onward that have been available from private sources mainly for aficionados and 35 mm. color slides made from vintage formal and informal photos of each artist.
August 1, 2004 - Dorothy Gibula, VBOG Education Director, discussed the composer, background, political climate, the artists; and the opera and then presented La Bohéme by Giacomo Puccini. The cast included Teresa Stratas, Renata Scotto, Jose Carreras, and James Morris with James Levine conducting at the Met.
August 15, 2004- Román Ortega-Cowan, VBOG Artistic Director, discussed the composer, background, political climate, the artists; and the opera and then presented Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi. The cast included Luciano Pavarotti, Edita Gruberova and Ingvar Wixell with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Chailly.
November 21, 2004 Román Ortega-Cowan, VBOG Artistic Director, discussed the composer, background, political climate, the artists; and the opera and then presented Giacomo Puccini’s TOSCA, filmed on location in Rome. The cast included Raina Kabaivanska, Plácido Domingo, Sherrill Milnes, and Plácido Domingo, Jr. as a shepherd. The New Philharmonia Orchestra was conducted by Bruno Bartoletti.
December 12, 2004 Dr. James A. Drake, well-known biographer of legendary opera stars such as Richard Tucker, Lily Pons, and Rosa Ponselle, presented "The Great Tenors on Film," which included rare film footage of legendary tenors as seen and heard on film from the late 1920’s through the 1980’s.
