Dramatic soprano Susan Neves has been acclaimed in theaters internationally such as the Opera Bastille in Paris France, the Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona and many others as a thriling singing actress. Neves commands a repertoire of some of the most challenging roles written for soprano. She has won particular acclaim as a Verdi soprano of the first rank as her Verdi repertoire is uncommonly vast and includes Abigaille in Nabucco, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, Odabella in Attila, Elvira in Ernani,Leonora in Il Trovatore and La Forza del Destino, Amelia in Un Ballo in maschera, Elisabetta di Valois in Don Carlo, the title role of Aida and Alice Ford in Falstaff. She has been especially identified with the role of Abigaille which has played a significant part in her career and which she has sung all over the world including a new production in 2000 at the Deutsche Oper under Marcello Viotti, in two revivals at the Bastille in Paris, in Montreal, Santiago, Parma, Genoa, Munich, Cagliari, Bilbao, at the Arena di Verona, Bologna, Monte Carlo(where she also sang Aida) and the outdoor festivals in Nimes and the Choregies d’Orange, the Metropolitan Opera and the Vienna State Opera. Neves has also been highly praised for her portrayal of the title role of Bellini’s Norma, a role she has sung in Barcelona, Madrid, at the Staatsoper in Berlin, Toulon and will perform this season in Montpellier, France.

Other performances have included Puccini's Tosca in Berlin and Pittsburgh, and in 2007, she will make her debut as the fiery diva in Palermo’s Teatro Massimo. She was Leonora in Il Trovatore in Montreal and Cagliari, and will sing the role opposite Roberto Alagna in July 2007 at the famed Choreries d’Orange. Besides Abigaille, Bilbao heard Neves as Elena in I Vespri Siciliani, a role that took her to the Megaron in Athens. She also opened the Festival Verdi in Parma as Elvira in Ernani.

Last season, she added the title role of La Gioconda to her repertoire in Barcelona, where she has also been heard as Aida, Norma, Lady Macbeth and Gulnara in Il Corsaro…

Upcoming performances include her debut as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana and Leonora in La Forza del destino, both at Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice under the musical directions of Bruno Bartoletti and Daniel Oren.

Susan Neves is a native New Yorker, but with a French mother and a Portuguese father, she feels right at home in whatever European city she works in. She completed her musical studies at the Manhattan School of Music, where she earned her master’s degree. As a winner of the International Luciano Pavarotti Vocal Competition, Miss Neves debuted as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. Her European debut was in 1990 in a concert with the KRO Dutch radio Orchestra under Maestro Henry Lewis, which led to her debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in a concert version of Die Walkure with Edo de Waart. She recently returned to the Concertgebouw, this time as Verdi’s Lady Macbeth.
