The Deborah Voigt/Vero Beach Opera Foundation was chartered December 2007.  Serving on the Board of Trustees are Chairperson Deborah Voigt, A.J. Reese Brackins, Rosemary B. Gagliardi, David Hancock, Dr. Robert Loewinger, Dr. Joan Ortega-Cowan, Román Ortega-Cowan, Richard A. Stark, and Cliff Whitehill.  The Executive Committee consists of President Joan Ortega-Cowan, Treasurer Román Ortega-Cowan and Secretary Rosemary B. Gagliardi.

The main focus of the Foundation is the PROTÉGÉE/MENTORING PROGRAM through which Deborah Voigt will personally select a Protégée (young soprano) each year who will then spend about three weeks with her during rehearsals and performances at a selected U.S. Opera house where she will be performing.  The Protégé will enjoy extended contact with Ms. Voigt while gaining personal experience of artistry at the highest level.

In 2008 the Deborah Voigt/Vero Beach Opera Foundation extended an invitation to selected conservatories, colleges, universities and opera companies with outstanding operatic training programs for young artists to submit letters of recommendation for a full lyric or young dramatic soprano between the ages of 22 years and 30 years of age.  Soprano Christina Borgioli, the 2009  Protégée, was selected in April 2009.
